Diversity is a factor that makes people different from each other. This includes many different factors: race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, ability, age, religious belief, or political conviction. All these factors work together to inform how students (and teachers, and everyone else) encounter the world. For instance, Children go to school for a better workplace, so the teaching must be encapsulated in teaching the realities that come with working in a diverse school or country.
What is Diversity?
Diversity can be conceptualized in different ways depending on the context. When it comes to our classrooms, we conceptualize diversity as understanding each student brings unique experiences, strengths, and ideas to our classroom. These differences can be along dimensions of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, socio-economic status, age, ability, religious or political beliefs, or other different ideologies.

The key point of Diversity is the concept of informational diversity. When people are brought together to solve problems in groups, they bring different information, opinions, and perspectives. Ways to encourage cultural diversity in Classrooms:
1.) Get to Know Your Students:
Teachers should take time to learn about the student’s cultural understanding of each individual. Take the time to learn about each student’s cultural background, hobbies, learning styles, and what makes them unique, and having a genuine interest in learning about each student will establish a sense of trust and love to form a bond with them so they feel valued. If the students feel appreciated and comfortable with the teacher, they will feel attached and involved in the community and will get appreciation and respect from peers too.
2.) Maintain Consistent Communication:
Aside from understanding the students, teachers should also try to maintain one-to-one communication throughout the semester or school, which will allow you to consistently improve the class curriculum for everyone. It’s also an opportunity to discuss their progress in the class and offer guidance on how they can improve, based on their individual needs as a student.
3.) Culture Sensitivity:
While it’s important to have an open dialogue amongst students but, it’s crucial to be sensitive to everyone's culture, beliefs, and language concerns. It’s important to understand every student's cultural nuances from their learning styles to the language they use and use these insights to design your lesson plans. For example, provide English language learners with appropriate and relevant resources that help them improve their English comprehension skills. These considerations will help ensure that every student feels included, is given the space to learn in their own way, and is given a chance to succeed.
